Langore Tree Services is working in Partnership with South West Lakes Trust and South West Water to restore over 700 metres of ancient Devon hedgebank by ‘steeping’ (hedgelaying) in the traditional way as they have been maintained for generations.
A spokesperson for Langore Tree Services said: “The farmland hedgerows will be laid over the winter to help conserve and manage land at Roadford Lake, improving catchment management, water quality and enhance biodiversity of its landscape including priority habitats.
“The works will enhance and maintain the network of species diverse Devon hedges across the estate through suitable management.
“The works aims to manage and restore a number of dense hedges across the estate through laying, coppicing and gapping up thereby providing important wildlife habitats particularly for Dormice which are recorded at Roadford Lake. Hedgerow trees will be maintained throughout.”
