Continuing their support of the local area, Launceston Community Market have been fundraising for the ongoing work of largest community café in the town.

The Gateway Centre in Launceston offers a whole host of support to local people.

Amongst other things, they run Cafe Avodah where lots of people, who may be experiencing with anxiety, loneliness or just in need of a break from their hectic life, can go to relax in a very friendly atmosphere — Avodah being a Hebrew word meaning “work, worship and service”.

They welcome a variety of groups which include Trina’s Tiny Tots Childminder, Community Money Advice Launceston, Little Red Bus, Pegasus Men’s Well-Being, Table Tennis Club, Pool Table, Creative Writing, Launceston Cadets, Launceston Youth Music Theatre, Knit and Natter.

They also run Gateway Gardening Club where individuals are encouraged to plant and tend to the raised beds that Gateway have made.

The café welcomes homeless people and anybody struggling in any way, often providing a warm meal and signposting to a safe place.

Carers regularly bring in their clients for a drink, cake and good company. There is good wheelchair access to the building from the car park.

Paul, from the market said “We are delighted to be able to help such a lovely community venture and, when I visited recently, I found the atmosphere and general feeling of the Cafe was wonderfully relaxing and the staff are excellent.”

Launceston Community Market runs every Friday morning in the Methodist Central Hall and would welcome any suggestions for the next local charity or good cause.
