DESPITE the weather heavily affecting the South West Peninsula League programme yesterday, games involving Launceston and Bude Town still went ahead.

Launceston, struggling somewhat towards the bottom of the table, visited leaders Liskeard Athletic with nobody bar the Clarets themselves giving them much of a chance.

However a superb performance, which saw striker Mark Elvidge put them in front on 12 minutes, looked like they may earn the result of the season in the division.

But the Blues struck twice late on through Mike Smith’s penalty and Dan Jennings to keep up their near-perfect start to the season.

Bude Town made the long trip down to Penzance and were beaten 3-1 at Penlee Park.

They trailed 2-0 at the break through Jacob Trudgeon’s brace, and found themselves 3-0 down when skipper Tyler Tonkin – playing in a makeshift striker role – fired home following a corner.

The Seasiders pulled one back on 73 minutes through Ryan Keates’ penalty, and had chances before the end through Harry Hopcroft and Keates once more, but it was the Magpies that earned a seventh win from eight on home turf.

There was also frustration in the same division as Holsworthy’s top six battle at Wadebridge Town was postponed, as was the case in the SWPL League Cup third round ties involving Callington Town and Camelford.

Cally were due to welcome SWPL Premier West rivals Mullion, while the Camels were set to entertain Premier East high-flyers Newton Abbot Spurs.

Both third round ties will be played this Saturday with 2.30pm kick-offs.
