SWPL PREMIER WEST (SATURDAY)
Bodmin Town 0 Camelford 3
CAMELFORD boss Reg Hambly admitted he knew the importance of getting ‘maximum points’ after the Camels saw off fellow strugglers Bodmin Town 3-0 on Saturday at Trefrew Park.
The two sides had already played out a 2-2 draw back in August, but the venue was switched due to ongoing problems at Town’s Priory Park and the Camels made the most of ‘home advantage’ with a superb display.
Camelford boss Reg Hambly welcomed back centre-half Tom Crowe to the club from St Blazey, while he also named son Charlie and attacker Tom Hensman from St Blazey on a bench which also included Falmouth Town’s Cam Hutchison.
The Camels started well, dominating much of the early possession and had two good early one-on-one opportunities as Kenley Dyson shot straight at Ollie Sidey, before Mark Gusterson went around the keeper, but failed to hit the target.
But with centre-back Adam Sleep proving a real threat in a makeshift striker role which allowed Mark Gusterson to slide out to the left of the front three, Camelford were dangerous.
And they took the lead midway through the half with a fine goal.
A ball down the left was flicked on by Boxall to Sleep who sent over a low cross which right winger Olly Taylor slotted home from six yards.
Camelford continued to probe away before the break, but despite a series of decent balls in, nobody could get the all-important touch.
Camelford started on the front foot once more after the break with Gusterson shooting just wide following a Sleep flick-on, before Gusterson turned provider for Taylor to fire over.
But ten minutes into the second half they were 2-0 up.

Left-back Tom Cowling sent over a fine ball to Taylor on the right and his ball across the box was swept in by Sleep.
Despite being on top, 2-0 can be an awkward scoreline, but they sealed the contest 20 minutes from time as Hutchison laid the ball off to Boxall whose deflected drive from 15 yards gave Sidey no chance.

Camelford had a couple of further opportunities to add to the lead, but had to settle for three.
Reflecting on the game, Hambly said: “After a couple of decent away performances at Bude and Sticker where we only picked up one point, we knew the importance of maximum points.
“But we went out there and were on top from the first minute, playing some really good football and got a thoroughly deserved win.”
Camelford are now four points above second bottom Millbrook with two games in-hand and face two crunch clashes next.
Hambly concluded: “Hopefully we can now carry on in the same vain against St Day and Launceston and save some of the missed chances from Saturday for goals in those.
“But we know it’s won’t be easy. We lost 4-0 down at St Day and their front four that day were very lively.
“It’ll be a pretty physical game but it’s up to us to make sure we continue with the same spirit and quality we showed on Saturday.”
