BUDE were crowned champions of the West Hockey League Trelawney Division One on Saturday, albeit with a huge anti-climax.
They were due to welcome relegated Duchy Seconds knowing that anything but a victory would hand Camborne School of Mines promotion at their expense.
But with the Duchy unable to raise a side, Bude were handed a 5-0 win and with it three points which meant they took the crown by a point.
The Seasiders amassed 61 points from their 22 outings, winning 20 while drawing just one and losing once.
Having conceded just 20 and racking up over a century of goals, Bude can plan for the big step-up.
Reflecting on the season, coach Andy Davis told the Post: “I am extremely happy with the final outcome to the long, hard season, although slightly disappointed that we didn't get the final chance to shine and see out the season with a well-earned win.
“Over the season there has been some lows and plenty of highs with the obligatory nail-biting performance's throw in, but the standout moment was early on when we managed to earn a draw away to then leaders Truro despite being 2-0 down.
“This really ignited the belief and momentum within the team as from then on everything else seemed to drop into place as the squad grew stronger and stronger with each game.
“We’ll enjoy the summer off before we look to build on this success in the new league against a fresh set of opponents, but with an added challenge of having to adapt as we’ll be losing a trio of influential youngsters as they head away from Bude on their next journeys at university or for their fledgling careers.
“But waiting in the wings are the next generation as the whole hockey club looks to develop and grow in what is an exciting time ahead.”
