Cornwall Cricket League Division Four East latest round-up

LAUNCESTON Seconds picked up much-needed victory in their quest to get away from the bottom as they bat fellow strugglers Grampound Road Thirds by two wickets at Lawhitton on Saturday.

Despite another much-changed side, they restricted the visitors to 179-6 with Martin Vanstone’s 3-27 from ten overs the pick.

Wickets fell early in the chase, and although Ashley Volz made 28, it was skipper Kevin Worth’s 71 coupled with a superb 47 not out from Vanstone that got them over the line.

They are away at St Minver Seconds on Saturday who chased down 227 at their Lanhydrock counterparts.

The first 40 overs were a test as the home side racked up 226-5 with openers Harvey Brown (57) and Jamie Taylor (45) amongst the runs.

Neil Meneer (1-41) was the most economical.

The chase saw twenties from three of the top four, but it was a boundary-filled 56 from opener Neil Kent and an unbeaten 65 from Sam Hocking that saw them home with two overs to spare.

Hocking’s knock contained four fours and as many sixes.

Elsewhere in the division, Pencarrow had mixed fortunes with their double-header.

Saturday saw them head to Newquay Thirds, and it was the bowlers who set it up as Peter Bassett (4-14), Joe Wilson (3-35) and Phil Williams (3-41) dismissed the hosts for 131.

It was not all plain sailing with the bat as 61-4 and 102-7, but an unbroken stand of 30 between Kenzie Dalley (17no) and Alastair McPhee (1no) got them over the line.

Sunday saw them thrashed at Lanhydrock who made 279-6, Jamie Taylor smashing 112.

Eddie Thomson took 3-67 but the reply saw them make just 113 with twenties from Harry Derry (24) and Daniel Cock (23).

Elsewhere in the division, there were wins for St Blazey Seconds at home to leaders St Neot and Duloe and St Stephen.
