FIVE local runners competed in the 2024/25 Cornwall Multi-Terrain Race Series season opener on Saturday, July 27.

The Tywardreath Trotter – which is held in the South Cornwall village near Fowey – is a seven-mile race which is half on road and half on trail.

The course is a hilly one, with an initial lap around the village, before heading out into the local countryside.

Launceston had three entrants - Catriona Ward Sell (1:08:28), Janet Lathom (1:22:06) and Ian Grimes (1:11:50) – with Janet and Ian finishing second in their respective age groups.

Morgan Craig and Stephen Hutchinson were the Bude RATs representatives.

Morgan’s superb time of 45:06 was good enough for 12th overall and third in the M45-49 section, while Stephen’s 1:06:10 meant he was first in the M70-74 category.

The same evening saw Launceston’s Jackie Chapman run the Haldon Forest Flyer five-mile race in 51:18 for first in the FV60 category.
