Cornwall Cricket League Division Three East round-up – Saturday, July 27
LAUNCESTON made it four wins on the spin from completed matches as they eased to an eight-
wicket victory at high-flying St Austell Thirds on Saturday.
Darren Jenkin’s men headed down the A30 looking to push towards the top five, and a steady bowling performance restricted the hosts to just 155-6 from their 45 overs.
Veteran Pete West led the way with 1-9 from as many overs while Matt Davey (0-20), Matt Bloomfield (3-45) and David Sillifant (2-27) backed him up.
Launceston got off to a flyer through Finlay Worth’s 18 and although he was soon bowled, Phil Spry’s 38 not out was backed up by Dan Tilley (33) and Darren Jenkin (42no) as they were home in the 27th over.
Leaders Luckett were missing several for their trip to Saltash St Stephens on Sunday, but still emerged comfortable five-wicket winners.
After opening bowlers Keith Maynard (2-25) and Mark Southcott kept things tight, change bowlers Darren Sambells (3-26) and Adrian Berry (3-17) helped bowl the hosts out for just 86 in 34.5 overs.
Luckett lost five wickets themselves, but Berry completed a fine all-round match with an unbeaten 37.
Werrington Thirds had a double-header in their quest to finish outside of the bottom four, and had mixed results.
Saturday was a dominant six-wicket victory over Newquay, achieved as Ian Worsnip (2-37), Dan Jenkin (3-19), James Adams (2-19) and Sam Smeeth (2-8) helped dismiss the visitors for 128.
Paul Miller (44) and Dan Warring (25) knocked off most of the runs.
Sunday saw Werrington visit strugglers Liskeard, but a scratch side were easily beaten.
Liskeard knocked up 173-9 despite 5-36 from Tyler May and 2-31 from Ben Sonley, but Werrington could only muster 115 in reply.
Opener Adam Paynter batted through for 42 not out.
