THERE’S a huge day tomorrow for Bude RFC’s Colts tomorrow as they take on Camborne in the Cornwall Colts League Shield final at Truro College (1pm).

The Seasiders restarted the side over the summer after an eight-year hiatus with the aim of bridging the gap between junior and senior rugby and to eventually get several of the players involved in the first and second team set-ups.

It has proved a fine decision as Bude have been more than competitive in most games and won six of their 13 games in the CRFU Colts League to finish seventh in the 14-team division.

Reflecting on the season so far, coach Paul Davey told the Post: “The team is made up of 16, 17 and 18-year-olds and we’ve had several close games where with a bit more experience we’d have got over the line in some of the matches we lost.

“Us finishing seventh meant the league put us in the Shield competition for teams finishing fifth to eighth, and last weekend we won our semi-final away from home at a very strong Truro side, 21-19.

“Now we’re looking forward to trying to gain revenge from the Camborne defeat in the league where we lost 44-30.

“We can’t wait for the game and would appreciate as many supporters as possible coming down!”

Bude return to action after the Shield final on March 22 when they visit Penzance and Newlyn in the first round of the Cornwall Cup.
