BUDE joint head coach Simon Jeffery wants his side to ‘perform for the full 80 minutes’ after they let slip a promising position to lose 33-12 at Redruth Seconds on Saturday in Counties One Western West.
The Seasiders were all square at the break at 7-7 after a fine team performance coupled with Ryan Butler’s brilliant individual try.
But as has been the case a couple of time recently, a slow start to the second half saw Redruth ease into a 21-7 lead after ten minutes of the restart due to Matt Blewett’s double.
And although Joe Wilson pulled one back before the hour, two more tries ensured a flattering scoreline for the Reds.
A disappointed Jeffery told the Post: “In the first half we were the better team and had them jumping at each other and the ref.
“But we went to sleep at half-time and didn’t react, meaning it was a disappointing outcome considering how well we played and kept them at bay before the break.”
Bude are now just three points clear of second bottom Tavistock after the Moorlanders edged past fellow strugglers St Ives, and Jeffery knows they need to respond starting with Saturday’s home clash with fifth-placed Wiveliscombe (2.30pm).
He said: “It’s going to be a close one so we’ve got to start performing again now.
“We need to be better, work hard in training this week and make sure we perform for the whole 80 minutes, not just for the first 40.
“These next few home games against sides around us really have to count.”
On the challenge Wiveliscombe provide, he said: “We haven’t played against them yet this year due to the postponement but they’re a tough team and we’ve got to stand up to the challenge they provide!”, before joking: “We’re also hoping that the two-hour drive will help us!”
