THE Holsworthy Ladies Skittle League recently held their cup competitions where there was keen competition spread across three tournaments and two weekends.

The Five Founders Cup for the highest six averages from each club was narrowly won by Milton Damerel who defeated Halwill in the final 310-308.

Shirley Jones (Halwill) had a 26 spare, while Kilkhampton’s Judith Ingram had the highest score of 76.

There were some close games for the Individual Championship where Claire Richards (Highampton) emerged the victor to represent the Holsworthy league at the Devon county final in May.

On her way to victory she had a 25 spare and beat Whitstone’s Laura Gabbitas 61-57 in the final.

Grace Lebe from Clawton was highest individual scorer with 76.

Holsworthy won the Challenge Cup, beating Stratton 308-300 in the final, while North Tamerton’s Sarah Foote made a 66 for the highest individual score and also had a 24 spare.

A league spokesperson said: “The committee were delighted with how smoothly the competitions ran.

“It was great to see several new players and some younger ones as well – we’re sure the future of ladies skittles is safe.”

The league season is also drawing to a close with Milton Damerel A comfortably claiming the title.

Following the round of fixtures up to and including March 6, they had a 22-point lead over second-placed Boyton A.

Division B is extremely tight with Holsworthy having a two-point lead over Bradford and Highampton, while Kilkhampton and New Inn also remain in contention.
