North Cornwall Table Tennis League latest round-up

DIVISION One champions North Hill A remain on course to defend their crown after easing to a whitewash victory over fourth-placed Budehaven B on Thursday night.

Nathan Jukes and David Ewen pushed Iain Oxenham and Shirley Luckhurst all the way in the opening matches, but after that it was a procession despite Will Partridge impressing in his first match in the division.

Mike Briggs dropped just one set as they sit six points clear of Budehaven A with both sides having two games left.

Elsewhere in the division, David Streak made it 28 successive victories after edging past Elyot Burnett in a decider as Bridgerule A beat their Stratton counterparts 8-2.

Burnett did beat Peter Freeburn and Helen Johns, but the hosts cemented third.

North Hill B, consisting of Peter Frier, Martin Hynes and Jim Rickwood, saw off bottom side Crackington A 10-0.

It was particularly tough on Ross Wilmshurt who was beaten in two fifth setters, one being 18-16 against Rickwood.

In Division Two, leaders Budehaven C ran out 8-2 winners over visiting Altarnun B who saw Paul Burden defeat Ezra Jukes and Keith McGarry.

However he couldn’t get the better of the league’s best player Robin Worden who won in four close sets.

Champions North Hill C have two games in-hand and sit 18 points behind after winning the last four matches at Crackington B for a 7-3 success.

The trio of Karen Horrell, Trevor Luckhurst and Ryan Taylor all won twice, as did James Ellis for the hosts.

Judith Cook saw off Luckhurst in her first match.

Blisland sit second, nine points behind Budehaven C with both teams having two games in-hand as they beat visiting Altarnun A 9-1.

The home side were 6-0 up despite Dave Jones pushing Chris Baverstock all the way, only losing 17-15 in the decider.

The doubles also went the distance before Jones defeated Stephen Parsons for 7-1.

But Simon Patterson and Baverstock won their next games for a treble each.

The other match saw Budehaven D draw 5-5 at Bridgerule B.

Louis Konowalik was unbeaten with a treble for the visitors with Dave Shadrick chipping in with a brace, as did the home side’s Barry Stearman.
