Cornwall Cricket League Division Three East latest round-up
LEADERS Luckett are all but champions after nearest challengers Roche Seconds and Grampound Road Seconds both suffered away defeats on Saturday.
Although Luckett weren’t in action due to a wedding, Roche visited in-form Launceston, and on a good pitch, never got going as they were 185 all out.
Matt Bloomfield (2-36) got rid of the dangerous Trudgeons – Adam (22) and Neil (2) – before spinners Ethan Green (3-45) and Chris Alford (2-36) slowed it down.
Launceston were 37-4 after a series of poor shots, but they were rescued by a 125-run stand between Dan Tilley and David Sillifant.
Tilley struck 13 fours in a brilliant 79, and although two further wickets fell, including Sillifant for 43, they got over the line to keep themselves in mid-table.
Werrington Thirds’ hopes of survival continue after they thrashed Grampound Road Seconds by 127 runs.
Werrington were missing their two best batsmen in Paul Miller and Dan Warring, but the rest stepped up superbly to rack up an imposing 275-9.
Seven batsmen reached double figures – including a fine 58 not out from number eight Ian Worsnip who received support from number nine Richard Stanbury with 24. Earlier, Zander Zambuni (42), Ian Wills (30) and opener Sam Smeeth (24) got stuck in.
The Road weren’t far from full strength but had no answer in the chase as man of the match Worsnip (3-31), Dan Jenkin (3-28) and Sam Smeeth (3-18) each took three.
Callington Thirds had a mixed weekend.
On Saturday they chased down 248 to win at their St Austell counterparts, which included 74 from Chris Simpson, before losing to a strengthened Newquay Seconds by 20 runs on Sunday.
Newquay were dismissed for 179 as Harvey Poad took 3-40, but only Toby Beresford-Power (45), James Moon (38) and Spencer Whatley (19) made much impression.
