HOLSWORTHY Cricket Club held their annual general meeting in the pavilion at Stanhope Park on Friday, December 8.
It will be a case of same again on the captaincy front on Saturdays with first team captain Ryan Walter set to embark on a 15th successive season as skipper.
They will once again be in Division Two East of the Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League, with the seconds – who will have Lyndon Piper in charge for a fourth successive year – in Division Five East.
The Sunday team will once again play in the North Devon League, with second team wicketkeeper Ryan Smith taking on the captaincy after a year where the role was shared around.
Freya Godfrey is the ladies captain as they look to continue their improvement both in hardball and softball cricket.
Off the field, Walter will also continue as chair, but he will have a new deputy in the shape of Ryan Bridgeman who steps up following Lyndon Piper’s decision to stand down to due to work commitments and his other roles within the club.
Liam Brend is now head groundsman with George Wilcox taking a backseeat, although he still remains as assistant, and will continue to help out.
Nick Ward, Dan Furse and Liam Brend have joined the committee with Lyndon Piper and Simon Ashford stepping down.
The roles for 2024 are as follows: President – Dave Gerry; Chair – Ryan Walter; Vice-chair – Ryan Bridgeman; Secretary – Aiden Gerry; Minutes Secretary – Hannah Steadman; Treasurer – Dave Gerry; Head of Youth – Dan Marks; Head of Ladies – Jack Greening; Safeguarding Officer – Hannah Steadman; Fixture Secretary – Dave Gerry; Head Groundsman – Liam Brend; Assistant Groundsman – George Wilcox; First Team Captain – Ryan Walter; Second Team Captain – Lyndon Piper; Sunday Team Captain – Ryan Smith; Ladies’ Captain – Freya Godfrey; T20 Captain – Matt Shepherd.
With the league season set to start on Saturday, April 13, the club have decided to start their pre-season training on Friday, January 12.
There will be a new venue this year as they move the nets to Shebbear College from Holsworthy Community College, with sessions every week until at least the end of March.
All cricket clubs look to raise money and the Trees are starting a 100 Club with the first draw to be made on March 1.
