WERRINGTON were crowned champions of the Cornwall Women’s Development League in their inaugural season on Sunday, September 1 after a 48-run derby victory at South Petherwin.
They made 150 all out off the last ball of their 30 overs with Emma Horrell and captain Grace Kirby retiring on 33 and 31 respectively, while 46 extras helped their cause.
South Petherwin’s star bowler was Olivia Jones with 1-20 from her seven overs, while there were also wickets for Paige Clements, Freya Payne, Meg Masters, Emma Wynn and Jodie Gardener.
South Petherwin made a steady, if not spectacular reply as they reached 102-4 in reply, 47 of which were extras.
Olivia Jones retired on 30, but the next best was nine apiece from Maisie Clements and Jodie Gardener.
Grace Kirby took 1-14 from five overs, but Emma Horrell’s 0-8 from five at the start meant Petherwin never threatened to stop Werrington from lifting the title having won eight of their ten outings.
